In response to recent increased interest about prostate cancer with Sir Chris Hoy’s diagnosis that had spread, we has launched a smart screening program for this disease. There is currently no national screening program because of concerns regarding overdiagnosis of prostate cancer. Smart Screening would involve a blood test called PSA profile, a urine analysis, 3 Tesla MRI scan of the prostate and a flow test to measure the strength of the urinary stream and the amount of urine left behind in the bladder with an ultrasound scan.
The patient would see an expert urologist and may need further investigations such as prostate biopsies and advanced imaging with a PSMA PET scan.
The test is available for:
1 – Men above 40 years with risk factors such as family history of prostate or breast cancer or African-Caribbean origin
2 – Men above 45 years with urinary symptoms such as slowing of the stream or waking up at night to pee
3 – Men above 50 years who are curious about their prostate even without any symptoms
